Bowel cancer screening

Bowel cancer screening can save lives so do not ignore your invite. Bowel cancer screening is available to everyone aged 54 to 74 years old. A home test kit is sent out to you every 2 years. This kit is called a faecal immunochemical test (FIT). You collect a small sample of poo and send it to a laboratory in the post (postage is free). The test looks for blood in your poo, that may not be visible to the eye – this could be a sign of bowel cancer. The bowel screening kit can help find cancer early, and before you have any symptoms, which may mean it’s easier to treat.

Bowel cancer is the 4th most common type of cancer in the UK. The sooner bowel cancer is diagnosed; the easier it is to treat.

To order a replacement kit please call 0800 707 6060.

Please note that we do not provide the test kits in the surgery, you must call the above number and they will post the testing kit to your home address. It is a simple process.

Please see this video for more information and how to do the home test kit: www.youtube.com – How to do the FIT bowel cancer screening test | Cancer Research UK.
