Whilst the NHS is funded mainly through taxation, patients still sometimes need to contribute to the cost of their care such as paying towards prescription costs or dental charges.
There are several exemptions for these costs and it’s important to know if you are exempt or eligible for reduced costs so that you don’t overpay. Exemptions could be due to a medical condition, pregnancy or due to low income. Patients can also utilise pre-payment certificates to reduce the cost of NHS prescriptions.
To check if you are eligible for an exemption from NHS charges, please refer to the NHS Business Services Authority (NHS BSA) website and use their free checking tool.
